Malcolm Trevena
Malcolm is Meaningful Volunteers's founder.
He was born and bred in South Auckland and had a successful ten year career in information technology before volunteering for six months in the Philippines and nine months in Africa.
He became disillusioned with the "volunteer tourism" he saw, and founded Meaningful Volunteer so that international volunteers could make a real and meaningful impact on developing communities.
Malcolm lives with his wife Megin in British Columbia, Canada
Megin Alvarez
Megin was born in Cavite in the Philippines and was raised in Canada. Megin has the best of both countries.
With a social science background, she has been working with the Ministry for Children and Family Development and Vancouver Aboriginal Child and Family Services Society (VACFSS) in British Columbia for the past twenty-six years.
She's involved in the foster care system in Canada and has developed numerous community programs in Cavite specializing in child advocacy and female human rights.
She is our International Coordinator.
Esther Nabukonde
Esther is Meaningful Volunteer's district manger in Uganda.
Esther has been with Meaningful Volunteer since 2011. Esther graduated from the Islamic University in Uganda. She is the proud mother of her two sons Ian and Ethan.
Hema Gurung
Hema Gurung is Meaningful Volunteer’s District Manager for Nepal.
She comes from a large family of strong and intelligent women. She has chosen to focus on a career rather than starting her own family. She wants to financially support her parents and other members of her family, and to make a meaningful contribution to her home village.
She has volunteer supervisory experience at the WSDO office in Rithepani. She has also worked as a weaver for WSDO for many years. She was personally recommended by Ram Kali Khadka, founder of WSDO.
Mary Wenyisa
Mary is the housekeeper and cook for the volunteer guest house in Buyaya.
She also cooks the meals at our school.
Mary also picks up our volunteers from the airport and take them to the guest house in Buyaya.
