Congratulations Rebecca

Congratulations to Rebecca Nadutu for completing her Bachelor of Science Degree at Busitema University! We are all so very proud of you.

Rebecca was an early student at our School in Uganda and has made it all the way to being university-qualified. Simply Amazing.

A special shout out to our partner Girls Matter for making all this possible.

And thanks to Mary for Esther. Without our awesome staff, none of this would be possible.

What makes a school work

A full stomach is one of the most important things to getting a good education. It’s hard to take in any information if all you thinking about is how hungry you are.

This is why we have Mary cook a meal for the kids daily. Thanks, Mary!

Coming in a close second is keeping the kids as healthy as possible. Mosquito nets and a working latrine are huge bonuses for education.

When our school was built over ten years ago, we hired a man we nicknamed Bulldozer to build us a latrine.

He dug a large pit by hand and built the latrine on top. Thanks, Bulldozer

Unfortunately, let’s just say that the latrine filled up.

We had some money left over in a slush find for projects like this, so we sent our staff the money and a new latrine was built. This will hopefully keep more kids healthier and enable them to not miss school due to illness

A special shout out to Meaningful Gaming, whose generosity makes projects such as this possible.

Christmas Celebrations and Graduations in Uganda

The Christmas and Graduation were celebrated at our school in Buyaya, Uganda.

We are so proud of all our students who have taken the next step in their education journeys.

One of the things we always emphasize to our students is the importance of giving back. This is exactly what a former student of ours called Evelyn did when she made all the graduation clothes. Thanks Evelyn! We look forward to you accomplishing so many great things in your life

A special shout-out to all who have donated over the year.

A special out to Debbie and Joe Boles for their generous donation that made this event possible,

Also, to all who slay dragons each and every week to raise money as part of Meaningful Gaming.

Ugandan Students past test with Flying Colours!

When we first set up Meaningful Volunteer in Uganda, we set up a meeting with the Elders and asked them what was needed

The Elders said that one of the biggest problems was the illiteracy rate for kids who had finished elementary school.

It was decided that the best way to address this was to set up a preschool where kids could learn their ABCs and their 123s and at least have a running start at elementary school.

Anecdotally, we have seen that what are doing is having a real positive effect on the illiteracy rate.

Just recently, our students took the formal Pre-Primary Assessment test, and they all passed with flying colours!

We expect our students to go to elementary school with a head start and, eventually, graduate with the ability to both read and write fluently. From there, the sky is the limit!

Harvest time in Buyaya

One of the goals for Meaningful Volunteer was to make our schools as self sustainable as possible.

One of out ideas was to turn some of the land that schools resides on into an “Edible schoolyard”.

So it raises a smile on all our faces when it’s harvest time for the schoolyard.

Here are some pictures of the tomato and soy bean crops from our school in Buyaya

Soccer Balls Donated to Buyaya

A group of students from Eagle Ridge Elementary School in British Columbia, Canada put on a fundraiser and purchased several soccer balls for the kids at Meaningful Volunteer’s school in Uganda

Their effots were acknowleged by Bonita Zarrillo, a member of the House of Commons of Canada.

Blankets and School Supplies Donated in Nepal

From Hema, our manager in Nepal

“A person’s true asset is a heart full of love, an ear ready to listen and a hand willing to help others.”

And Mr Axel Velberg from Norway 🇳🇴 is a true example of this quote.

He distributed much-needed stationery supplies and warm blankets to the children of our preschool today. We would like to express our gratitude to his kind gesture towards our little ones. Also Thank you Mrs. Ramkali Ram Kali Khadka for making this happen

Flooding in Uganda

The road leading into Buyaya

Uganda was recently affected by excessive rain that lead to flooding, most notably around Uganda’s second-biggest city Mbale. Twenty-four people lost their lives.

Our Uganda school is near Mbale but it was spared the worst of it. There was some genuine concern for Esther and Mary and everyone in Buyaya at one point. They are all fine, albeit a little wet.

The recently repaired main road that heads up the sloped of Mt Elgon to our school was severely damaged by the flooes
